This place is dead and hopefully this topic will spark a little debate. I was wondering who everyone thought was the best athlete to come out of each BDD school?
Hurley?
Garden?
Whitewood?
Honaker?
Haysi?
Council?
Twin Valley? even though they have only been around like 3 years

Honaker - Heath Miller

Haysi - Robbie Colley

Council - Don't know, but I guess Brad Nuckles even though he was only good at basketball.

Whitewood, Garden, Hurley - Honestly don't know.

Twin Valley - Haven't really been around long enough.

I know Pocahontas isn't in the BDD anymore, but weren't there a few good basketball players to come from there?

Hurley - Greg Tester was pretty good I think he is playing Arena ball right now or he was. I think Mark Davis, someone correct me if I'm wrong, won the Pappy in like 1984.
Garden - Roby Hale played in like 1986 went on to Wake Forest I think to play football.
Whitewood - I looked on the vhsl record book and Mark Robinson pulled down 48 rebounds in one game and scored 833 points in a season which is pretty impressive so the guy had to have some skills.
Honaker - Heath Miller
Haysi - Dewayne "Duffy" Gilmore should be watching him play on T.V.
Council - Matt Presley was a heck of an athlete don't know much about them past 1990. But Kenny Bostic did hold the single game basketball scoring record until Brad Nuckles broke it a few years back.
Twin Valley - Logan Shortridge the kid is amazing
Pocy (I had forgot about them) - I know nothing anyone know anything??

Haysi-Kory Bostic, John Salyers, Blake Owens, Terry Gulley...there have been so many
Honaker-Jason Compton heck of an athlete...but hands down it is Heath Miller
Hurley-Greg Tester was a good one...there have been many great ones from there as well
Garden-Lots of good athletes from Garden too...no just pop out at me...PJ Bailey was a baller
Pocy-Grossclose (sp.) great running back in the early 90s
Council-Matt Presley was a good...the Jackson kid that ran the mile for them back in the 80s
Whitewood-many many great basketball players in the day i just dont know any names
Twin Valley-Shortridge is a good athlete...Matt Belcher is probably the best so far
We forgot about St. Paul i dont know any athletes from there

depends on how you define best athlete in most cases. I will give my opinion on a few of them.
Honaker-Heath Miller, no question
Haysi-Brett Compton, Robby Colley, Terry Gulley, and Mike Owens was an all-around track star
Council-Matt Presley was the most athletic all-sport player
Hurley-probably Tester or Estep
I'll stop there, I could pull a few from earlier but some people wouldn't know them.

COUNCIL-----BRAD NUCKLES, have to pick him look what he has accomplished

HAYSI--- Dont have a clue, but Robbie Colley comes to mind. Duffy Gilmore could have been listed here but circumstances I'll not discuss sealed his fate.

HURLEY----- Greg Tester, after all he is playing for money now in an arena league

WHITEWOOD--- Mark Robinson.... PERIOD

GARDEN--- plenty of good ones, Robie Hale comes to mind, he did attend Wake Forest

POCY--- Honestly do not know

TWIN VALLEY--- To early to tell, as far as success goes, it could go to a female athlete

HONAKER---- Heath Miller, no doubt!

There were a lot of good athletes to come from every school in the BDD.

Poca had a couple of twins that were good. Their last name was Thompson. If I?m not mistaken they along with Mark Robinson played in the Clinch Valley District which consisted of the following schools:

Garden; Whitewood; Hurley; Council; Honaker; Haysi; Pocahontas; St. Paul; Castlewood; and Lebanon.

Goes back a few years considering the BDD was formed in 1979.
